Webinar – Streamlining the rolling stock approval process
Complicated and repetitive approval processes mean it can take longer to get a train approved to run across the country than it does to build it. This is costly for operators and a major deterrent to investment in new and innovative trains. To simplify and streamline the process, we're working with industry and the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) to:
- develop guidance on rollingstock safety assurance processes
- pilot a single national application approach to register rollingstock operating on the national network of interoperability (NNI), and
- investigate ways to harmonise testing requirements and locations for rolling stock.
Our webinar next month will provide a clear understanding of the scope of these reforms, and give stakeholders the chance to provide feedback and register interest to participate in future engagements.
Public input to help guide mutual recognition of rail skills training
Industry Skills Australia (ISA) is calling for public input to help develop important resources for Australia’s Rail Mutual Recognition project.
The project is being undertaken by NTC, ISA and the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) to develop skills training that’s recognised by all rail organisations across the national network. This will reduce training costs, make it easier for workers to move between networks, and help workers outside the sector get a job in rail.
The project builds on the NTC’s National blueprint for the mutual recognition of entry-level rail training courses, completed with your assistance last year.
The Blueprint sets out five steps for delivery. The first three being undertaken by ISA include the development of:
- key principles of mutual recognition
- validation and moderation guidance to assess competencies
- guidance for the development, delivery and assessment of entry level rail skills.
Your help is vital to ensure the principles and guidance meet industry needs.
