This Transparency Statement outlines the NTC's approach to AI adoption, consistent with the standard for AI transparency statements released by the Digital Transformation Agency (Transparency statements | digital.gov.au).
The purpose of this statement is to outline how AI can be used and the situations in which someone interacting with the NTC may be impacted by AI.
AI is increasingly becoming a valuable technology with the capacity to enhance productivity and support staff in their daily tasks.
The NTC’s approved AI usage is related to workplace productivity under the domain of corporate and enabling, increase the efficiency and productivity of our staff. The NTC is not using AI in any way that members of the public may directly interact with, or be significantly impacted by, without a human intermediary or intervention.
The two roles, Chief Information Governance Officer and Chief Information Officer, held by the Executive Leader Business & Resources and Head of Information Services respectively, are the accountable officers for AI at the NTC. They are supported by an internal committee with broad representation to assist in guiding implementation of AI governance and monitoring current and emerging systems to ensure AI is used in a safe, ethical and effective way.
Staff are required to uphold ethical and legislative requirements to ensure the NTC uses AI responsibly. The NTC ensures the Policy, and the use of AI is available and communicated regularly to staff, and approved AI software and suitable uses, will be recorded in an internal register that staff can access. Policies are available to staff on the intranet.
This Transparency Statement will be updated annually or if the NTC makes significant changes on the approach to AI.
