Heavy Vehicle Charges Model Law

In May 2024, Infrastructure and transport ministers approved amendments to the Heavy Vehicle Charges Model Law to set the regulatory component of registration charges from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025. States and territories implement the model law through their own legislation and regulations.

The model law provides schedules of the annual registration charges and permit fees that are to apply to various heavy road transport vehicles. It shows the regulatory portion of registration charges applying from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, and the road component of the annual registration charges from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 and from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.
