For your information I have sent by Australia Post a section of a truck winter drive tyre that is fitted with ‘studs’, or cleats, as referred to in 1.1.4 Tyre Tread. I have no knowledge of studded tyres being used on any heavy trailers in Australia at this time. Studded drive tyres are in use in the snow clearing operations at various Australian alpine resorts as an alternative to the use of snow chains. There has been no reports at this time of these studded tyres causing damage to roads. In fact the studded tyres have been used in the VicRoads snow clearing operations since 2016 on the Great Alpine Road (Mount Hotham) to reduce the damage to the roads caused by the use of snow chains. I hope you find the information helpful, please give me a call 0418 324 052 to discuss. Cheers Richard Richard Townley 0418 324 052 richard@snowdrivesolutions.com.au snowdrivesolutions.com.au
