  It is My view that ministers should not accept any increase in Registration charges or the Road user charges. The current conditions of the roads cannot possibly justify an increase in revenue from any road user until value can be calculated and verified for the increase. Value for money is not being obtained by the current method of charging and no increase should be proposed till there is a justification of current expenditure.. Damage to vehicles from poorly maintained roads has increased 2 fold in the past 2 years and operators are now being asked to pay higher maintenance cost to their vehicles as well as fix the roads. This is not just related to flood damage but a slow demise in the quality of works provided and poor construction of new projects. In my view it would only increase the amount of money that could be wasted not better roads. I believe until the road network is in a much better state it is unreasonable to ask for more revenue. I would be happy to pay more when the roads are not causing damage to my vehicles.
