Heavy vehicle charges from 2023–24 to 2025-26

At the Infrastructure and Transport Minister’s Meeting (ITMM) in December 2022, ministers agreed in-principle to a three-year road user charging cycle - replacing the current annual cycle, to provide greater certainty to industry by providing a longer-term view of costs. 

At this meeting, ministers also directed the NTC to consult on a potential increase in heavy vehicle charges and the Road User Charge of 6 per cent, as well as an alternative scenario of 10 per cent per annum from 2023-24 to 2025-26. 

Following this consultation, all feedback was provided to ITMM and the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government for consideration.

The National Transport Commission does not set heavy vehicle charges. Its role is to research options and undertake consultation and economic analysis.
