National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme
Accreditation is an effective way to demonstrate compliance with road transport laws and is more attuned to modern compliance and enforcement practices.
The National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) was first offered to the heavy vehicle transport industry in 1999 as an alternative compliance scheme. It has since evolved as a formal process for recognising operators who have robust safety and other management systems in place and is increasingly being used to show compliance with general duty requirements under road transport law.
The NHVAS is now managed on a national basis by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) who is the single point of contact for enquiries, applications and renewals.
Any current NHVAS accreditation granted under the state and territories’ business rules will be preserved for the life of that accreditation.
The NHVR currently is undertaking a review of the NHVAS operations.
