Productivity package

Productivity is a major focus in a range of NTC projects designed to boost Australia’s transport networks.

Australia’s freight task is expected to increase by 80 per cent between 2010 and 2030 and triple by 2050, with truck traffic alone predicted to increase by around 50 per cent to 2030.

We are working with stakeholders to identify reform areas aimed at delivering quicker and cheaper road, rail and intermodal networks, particularly for Australia’s freight and logistics industry.

The NTC’s productivity program includes:

  • reporting on systems, tools and decisions that have already been shown to increase productivity in different states, territory or local government areas
  • developing options to increase load volumes allowed to be carried by high-productivity trucks when the weight can safely be carried
  • investigating the market for Performance Based Standards to see if there is more we can do to improve design innovation.

Projects

Case studies of access management decisions to support road managers
Increasing allowed volume where mass is not the constraint
Investigate the feasibility of 7 axle truck and dogs PBS mass limits
