The purpose of this project is to develop national enforcement guidelines that clarify regulatory concepts of control and proper control for different levels of driving automation.
We have released a discussion paper seeking feedback on the development of national enforcement guidelines for automated vehicles.
The paper consults on four issues:
- Who is in control of an automated vehicle at different levels of driving automation?
- What will it mean for a driver to have proper control of an automated vehicle?
- How should the proper control test apply to the automated driving system?
- How will enforcement agencies interact with automated vehicles?
Consultation closes on Friday, 2 June 2017.
Feedback from this consultation will inform the draft guidelines which will be presented to transport ministers at the Transport and Infrastructure Council meeting in November 2017.
