The NTC reviews the Australian Dangerous Goods Code every two years to help it meet international best-practice and evolving user needs in Australia.
As part of this ongoing process, we are reviewing the rules around transporting limited quantities of dangerous goods.
Please note: You can get a copy of the current code – edition 7.5 – by visiting Heavy vehicles > Safety > Australian Dangerous Goods Code.
The NTC has started scoping issues for the next amendment package. The next package will include the twentieth edition of the UN Model Regulations for the transport of dangerous goods.
The NTC is accepting Australian specific issues for consideration. Please contact the Project Manager listed below for more details.
All issues are considered by the maintenance advisory group for the transportation of dangerous goods prior to public consultation.
We are planning to provide the final amendment package to transport ministers at the May 2018 meeting of the Transport and Infrastructure Council. Policy changes to the code will follow that, pending ministers’ approval.
