The National Transport Commission (NTC) today welcomed today’s announcement by the Deputy Prime Minister that the current Director General of the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Neil Scales OBE, has been appointed a part time commissioner of the NTC, in addition to his current role.

CEO of the NTC Paul Retter said Mr Scales had almost 40 years’ experience in transport making him an ideal appointment for the NTC.

“We look forward to working with Mr Scales as we continue to improve the productivity, safety and regulation of Australia’s transport networks,” Mr Retter said.

Mr Scales replaces Mr Norm McIlfatrick who completed his term as NTC Commissioner last month.

Mr Scales has qualifications in engineering and management, and in 2005 he received an OBE for his services to transport in the United Kingdom, where he worked as the Chief Executive of MerseyTravel.

“Mr Scales brings extensive transport industry experience as well as a detailed understanding of the transport challenges faced by governments and the rest of the Australian community,” Mr Retter said.
